Origin of the name: The origin of the name "Double Doodle" derives from a combination of the names of the dog's parents.

Double Doodle History and Origin: The country of origin of the Double Doodle breed was in United States during the mid to late 1900's. The lineage of the hybrid Double Doodle is a combination of three dog breeds. The Labrador Retriever, the "Fisherman's Friend", originated in Canada as a gun dog during the 1800's. The Poodle, the "Caniche", began as a water dog, specifically as a duck retriever, in Germany during the 1500's. The Golden Retriever, the "World's Most Popular Dog" was trained in England to pick up, or retrieve, small game or water fowl in the 1800's. Around the 1990's dog breeders began to create the so-called 'Designer Dogs" developing a brand new breed based on the combined qualities of the Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever  and the Poodle.

The breeding programs resulted in the Double Doodle, an impressive dog that exhibited the athleticism and engaging qualities of the retrievers with the high intelligence and low shedding coat of the Poodle. The hybrid Double Doodle was found to be a real live wire. The clever, sociable and energetic Double Doodle became a great success with families and in rural areas. The hybrid Double Doodle is currently recognized by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC) and the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC).

Double Doodle Height: This breed is classified as a large sized dog. The height to the shoulder of a male dog is 20-24 inches. The height to the shoulder of a female dog is slightly less.

Double Doodle Weight: Not surprisingly for a large sized dog, the weight of a male dog is 50-80 lbs. The weight of the smaller female dog is slightly less than the male.
